AN EXCERPT FROM THE PRESENTATION OF THE  LAGOS STATE COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION- *MRS ADEFISAYO FOLASHADE* AT DAYSTAR CHRISTIAN CENTER ORGANISED TEACHERS’ PROGRAMME TAGGED: *TEACHER: REAL DEAL*
APPRECIATION: She appreciated the organizers of the programme for contributing their own quota to the development of education in Lagos State through this platform of enlightenment and capacity building for educators of all categories. She equally commends the teachers for chosen this noble profession.
She asked a self reflective question yesterday from teachers and thus:
▪ *Who are you as an educator (teacher)?*
*You can never tell where your influence* *will reach*. You are working now, and you think you are doing something small, No! What you are doing is not small, one day something will happen and you will get rewarded for those things you have done in the past.
*On Her Own Story*
Before she became a  teacher, she was once a  Banker. That was her first job experience and it was in the banking sector. When she finished her MBA, her uncle gave her a letter to give one of the AGM personnel at UBA Bank. When she got there, *the man asked; you are Baba’s daughter right?* And she said yes, *I am his first born*.
Immediately the man said let me tell you something, *never be unkind to young people you never can tell where they will reach*. Your father thought me at *Edo college, Benin City* in 1958 now your father cannot remember me because I was just a young boy but I never forgot him.
*The Question Is…*
How would her father know that one of those boys he taught in 1958 will later become the AGM personnel in a bank? And his first born was granted job by one of his students.
After two weeks she started working in the Bank and the man look after her, till she left the bank after two years and took teaching job as her profession of interest which led her to where she is today.
Don’t underestimate your power. Your power is in catalogue. Teacher touch lives and they  never can tell where their impact and power of  influence can reach.
You have power in your hands don’t play with that power. Make yourself a professional, it’s in your hand to push our profession beyond limit.
You have to upgrade yourself.
*Teachers are dignified*
*Teachers should dress well and look good.*
*The nation treasure is in your hands so, you have to leave your comfort zone to acquire more knowledge on how the treasures can be use, manage and protected*
*The only way the children in this country can build this country positively is when you do your work well in your various classes and in your little but big corner*
*Greatness of Nigeria is in your hand. When something is in our hand, we can do anything we want to do with it.
 *STORY SHARED*
The story of a man who hid a bird in a boy’s hand, and the man said to the boy: the bird is in your hand do whatever you want to do with it……. Let’s assumed that the man said the bird is alive, the boy could have  squeeze it to death.
*if you look at your work that the destiny of many generations are in your hands*. You will do it better.
Say it to yourself the destiny of my students are in my hand.
 *Build the skills*.
What are you doing now that children you are teaching, will be able to function well than before?
You have to be a future oriented teacher because, you have to build certain relevant skills in the children now for the unknown future.
*Make sure they have good character formation as part of their learning and help them to build a better life for themselves.*
*You must build them to be relevant to the society- this means, our children must be train with all flexibility, to be open minded and to multi tasked, and to build and nurture talents*
*This children must learn different skills from you:*
– public speaking
– creativity
– problem solving
– innovation
– they must be collaborative thinkers.
– able to use digital technology.
*N.B:* You can not teach children to be assertive when you are not assertive.
*We have to change the way we think*
Lastly, you can meet her better as she will be digging deeper on all these contemporary issues in our education system @ the *ASSOCIATION OF NURSERY AND PRIMARY EDUCATION INSTRUCTORS IN NIGERIA (ANPEIN) 2ND ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE IN NOVEMBER. DETAILS BELOW*
